    Preparing the Foundations for IIPT World Symposium

    IIPT and Skål International are cooperating in a campaign leading up to the IIPT World Symposium to encourage towns and villages across South Africa to declare themselves as IIPT/Skål Peace Towns or Villages. A goal of 50 IIPT/Skal Peace Towns and Villages has been set to be achieved by 15 February, 2015 – symbolic of the African Union 50th Anniversary.

    Each IIPT/Skål Peace Town or Village will be actively committed to promoting values of tolerance, non-violence, gender equality, human rights, youth empowerment, environmental awareness, and sustainable social and economic development. Collaboration between and among IIPT/Skål Peace Towns and Villages will be encouraged as well as information sharing regarding Peace Town/Village initiatives.

    With over 200 Million people using Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube on a regular basis, there is a good chance that the "17,000" Members of Skål International are also using one or more of these Social Media channels.

    Historically, people have used Facebook for sharing personal information, LinkedIn for sharing business information, Twitter for sharing "Breaking News" and YouTube for sharing audio visuals...

    The two largest worldwide tourism associations have signed an agreement to seek out leaders to run the industry in the 21st Century.

    Karine Coulanges, President of Skål International and Taleb Rifai, Secretary of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation signed, in Madrid on Monday 21 July 2014, the Memorandum of Understanding between Skål International and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation. Skål International is an Affiliate member of the UNWTO. Also present were members of Skål International Spain from Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Granada and Ibiza.

    Demand for international tourism remained strong in the first four months of 2014 according to the results reported by destinations around the world included in this issue of the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer. International tourist arrivals worldwide grew by 5%, the same rate as during the full year 2013. Prospects for the current peak tourism season remain very positive with over 460 million tourists expected to travel abroad in the May-August 2014 period.
