69TH SKÅL WORLD CONGRESS - TAIPEI 12-17 OCTOBER 2008

There is no need to remind you, I am sure, that the 69th Skål World Congress will be held in the city of Taipei, Taiwan from 12-17 October 2008. The President of Skål International Taipei, Pauline Leung, is anxiously waiting to greet Skål members to this unique oriental location from the almost 90 countries where Skål is present.

DEADLINE: The deadline of 26 August 2008 has been extended for a further two weeks to give those who have not registered time to do so. Do not miss this great Skål gathering and register immediately. PRE– AND POST-TOURS: There is a limited number of places left on the interesting pre- and post-tours which the Organising Committee have put together for you as follows:

  • Tour Skål E: Taroko / Sun Moon Lake – Pre tour four places, Post tour three places

VISA: Visas for Taiwan can be obtained on arrival for all nationalities. Please read the information on the congress web page or by clicking on the following hyperlink http://www.skal.org/congresos/taipei2008/visa.asp?idioma=I The following information should be sent to the Congress PCO: Copy of the main page of your passport, copy of the congress registration form, copy of your airline ticket and actual flight arrival time. This information should be sent to Carol at carol@ knaintl.com.tw

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE FORM: We thank all those persons who have sent their Arrival/Departure form to the Professional Congress Organiser. As soon as you have your airline ticket sorted out please forward this form to the PCO. You can find it at the following hyperlink: http://skal.ctdli.net/des/arrival_form.php?idioma=I. Please remember your airport-hotel-airport transfer is included in your registration fee but you should not expect to be met if you do not advise the PCO.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY: The General Assembly of Clubs will be held at the Taiwan International Convention Centre on Tuesday 14 October 2008. BUSINESS TO BUSINESS WORKSHOP: On Wednesday 15 October 2008 the Business to Business Workshop will be held at the Taiwan International Convention Centre. A table and four chairs will be allocated to each country, free of charge. Extra tables and chairs are available at €50.00 per table. TOURISM FORUM: The speaker at the Tourism Forum on Wednesday 15 October 2008 at 9.30am will be Bert Van Walbeek, Managing Director, The Winning Edge and his topic will be “Expect the Unexpected”. Bert is an expert in crisis management and delivers his serious lectures in a not-so-serious and light-hearted way. Despite the seriousness of his subject he is sure to make you laugh. IT & ME MOTIVATION SHOW

Skål International will once again have a stand at the Motivation Show which will be held at the McCormack Centre, Chicago. This is an invitation to all Skål members and interested persons to visit the stand. We will have a “happy hour” at 16.00 hours on Tuesday and Wednesday 23 and 24 September 2008 and you are very welcome to attend. The “happy hour” is being generously sponsored by the Croatian National Convention and Visitors Bureau.

OLYMPIC CONNECTION

Red Sea surfer Shahar Zubari won an Olympic Bronze Medal in sailing in the Neil Pryde finals at the Beijing Olympic Games 2008. Members of Skal International Red Sea Bay watched the race at his home in Eilat with many friends and family members and congratulated Zubari's family. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called to congratulate Zubari and told him: "There are lots of tears of joy now in the eyes of Israelis". Israel President, Shimon Peres also congratulated Zubari and said: "In the name of all the people of Israel, I send you a large embrace, our love and our pride in you".
