ENVIRONMENTAL TIPS

Dear Skålleagues,

In line with the President’s theme “Sustainable Development in Tourism”, at the Mid-Year meeting of the International Council in Cordoba, Argentina, the Ad Hoc Committee on Sustainable Development in Tourism and the PR & Communications Committee proposed the publication of a small booklet entitled:

How to make your business Environmentally friendly

The objectives of the exercise are:

To promote the commitment of Skål International to sustainable tourism.

  1. To promote the Eco Tourism Awards and Ecotourism principles
  2. To offer easy-to-follow tips that ensure we not only save energy and resources, but also create a cleaner, greener planet for our children.
  3. To provide a forum among the members for the exchange of environmental ideas from across the globe. Ideas both from Northern and Southern Hemispheres, tips for businesses in cold, warm, tropical climates, deserts, snow fields, mountains, seaside resorts, convention centres, small and large hotels, small travel agents, large tour operators etc.

So if you have any ideas or tips that you think would be useful to share and include in the booklet please forward a short paragraph on each idea to Andrew Wood, International Councillor, Thailand, who is helping to co-ordinate your responses. Andrew’s email is andrew@chaophyapark.com .

All successful entries will be acknowledged and printed in the booklet.

As a second step, if anyone has ideas or connections to sponsor the booklet would they please contact me? We are hoping to print 5,000 copies as a first edition (on recycled paper of course!).

Environmentally yours,

Skål!

Hulya Aslantas
Vice President Skål International

TWO NEW PUBLICATIONS FROM THE UNITED KINGDOM

Skål International United Kingdom and Skål International Northern Ireland have produced two booklets all totally paid by advertising. The United Kingdom “Blue Book” is a list of the officers of the National Committee and a listing of all the current officers of the Clubs in the United Kingdom. The second booklet is a list of the officers and members of Skål International Northern Ireland. If you would like a copy of either publication, please contact the General Secretariat at skal@skal.org

REMINDER RE E-UPDATE@SKAL

It has come to our attention that when we send out e-mails to the membership in general that approximately 10% of the e-mails are returned for any number of reasons, e.g. e-mail changed or incorrect, etc. This matter was discussed at the recent Council Meeting held in Cordoba, Argentina and the Councillors committed themselves to asking the Clubs in their jurisdiction to ensure that the e-mails of their members were up-to-date and that any corrections to addresses would be communicated as a matter or urgency to the General Secretariat. There is a special form on the website for updating the e-mail address and this can be found at the following hyperlink:
http://www.skal.org/formularios/lista_correo.asp?idioma=I
Simply complete the form and press the “submit” button. The information will be delivered automatically to the General Secretariat. We also note that we do not have an e-mail address for approximately 1,500 members. We kindly ask the Secretaries of Clubs to check that we have correct e-mail addresses for all their members.
